Option 1: Complete assessment to (1) Demonstrate my skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.

•  Work Keys Assessments in Reading for Information, Listening & Writing, and/or Applied Mathematics

    (Available in Greeley)

•  Win Key Computer-Based Tutorials to prepare for Work Keys Assessments

•  Academic skill- development courses

•  Work Keys Assessments in Reading for Information, Business Writing, and/or Applied Mathematics

   (Available August 2003 in                              Longmont)

•  CAAP Assessment (pending approval)

•  Work Skills Assessment (implementation pending)

•  Academic skill- development courses

Option 1: Complete assessment to (2) Demonstrate skills in assisting with instruction.

•  Preparation through courses aligned with the curriculum of CO-TOP Paraeducator training modules

Introduction to Instructional Assistance

(2 semester hour course available Fall ‘03)

•  Preparation through paraeducator courses in the community college system

Option 2 : Begin a course of study that may lead to an Associate's Degree.

•  Associate of Applied Science – Paraeducator Program   This program is composed of 28.5 general education course credits and 28.5 paraeducator-specific   credits and meets the educational requirement for “highly qualified: paraeducator under No Child Left Behind standards.  

 

•  Associate of General Studies – Program intended for those seeking “highly qualified” status.   It is composed of 38-44 credits of general study and 22-23 credits of paraeducator-specific credits.

•  Paraeducator certificate (pending CDE decision)

Option 3: Begin a course of study that may lead to completion of a teacher preparation program.

•  ESL or Bilingual Education Associate of Arts Degree   The 90-credits in the program transfer to University of Northern Colorado & are consistent with the Elementary Teacher Education Transfer Agreement of 2003.

 

•  Associate of Arts P rogram focused on requirements for university teacher preparation program transfer.   Sixty hours transfer to 13 colleges/universities:   ELE (consistent with the Elementary Teacher Education Transfer Agreement of 2003); SEC is regular AA; ECE in development

Option 4: Complete an on-the-job assessment to demonstrate skills in assisting with instruction.

 

Technical Assistance to complete a series of observations to validate skill development available by October ‘03

 

Option 5: Complete a training program in order to demonstrate the proficiency on the standards for Paraeducators.

Paraeducator preparation CO-TOP modules with college credit

Introduction to Instructional Assistance

Supervisor:   Conduct on-the-job assessment of paraeducator demonstration of skills in assisting with instruction.

 

Supervision Skills in Assessing Paraeducator Skill Development

(.5 semester hour available upon district request by October ‘03)

 

Training Resources for Supervisors

Centennial BOCES offers support to Supervisors who are using the Instructional Assistance Assessment to verify that currently hired paraeducators demonstrate the skills needed to (assisting in) instructing students. This training is designed as a modular course that may be adapted to the needs of the district requesting the service.
