Child Find is a free program within the public school systems designed to identify children from birth to twenty-one years of age who may have special needs. Free developmental services are provided statewide for eligible children. For children ages 3 to 21, these services are usually part of the local school district but in rural areas they are often connected to a Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES or BOCS) which provides special education services for several small school districts. The Centennial BOCES Preschool/Child Find program screens and evaluates children from birth to kindergarten age and provides special education and related services to eligible children from 3 years old to kindergarten. Children from birth to 3 years old are referred, if appropriate, to the local Part C program, which assists parents in accessing services to benefit their child and family.
